Assembly Tips

For most projects on our website, you’ll need very few items to assemble/create your project.

The most common items you’ll need:

  • sharp utility knife or scalpal and scissors
  • metal ruler
  • cutting mat or safe surface
  • double sided tape or glue dots
  • white craft glue

If you are making any modifications or additions to your file, please do so before printing (if adding monograms, photos or text).

Always print a test page first. I strongly encourage you to print just one page first and assemble that project completely before proceeding with printing the full quantity you require.

Place your cutting mat on a flat surface. If there is straight lines, place the metal ruler along the line & cut into paper using a sharp utility knife. If there are curved lines, I recommend slowly cutting along the line with scissors.

For fold lines, use a boning knife to score along the fold lines. If you don’t have a boning knife, then use the utility knife blade pressed ‘very’ lightly along the fold line.

Remove excess paper from your project. Make any necessary folds. Determine where you need to place double sided tape or glue. Adhere all flaps and edges as indicated in the design. If using glue, hold project long enough for glue to set.

Using our picture guides and images, complete the assembling of your item. If all is well, then begin printing the appropriate quantity of items you need to printed and begin assembling the rest. Simply continue to repeat the process.

And once you are ready for your party, take some pictures and send them along to me at jolyn@diypartydesigns.com – and if I share your images on our inspiration blog, I’ll send you along a little thank you gift.
